Just too busy to update lately, but here we go...

Had some hotel time and got to take advantage of it with not one, but TWO lovely models, one of whom is my favorite Denver burlesque queen, Lady LaLa. I'm pretty happy with the variety in the shots. Same setting, only an hour apart but they feel very different.

I'm trying to find the time tonight to process some more film, but then I'll still have to print and scan it, so it may be a while. Until that time, here are a couple more from the last print session I had, all scanned and cleaned up.

Back to film

Well... not really "back to"... I've been shooting film, just haven't processed or printed any of the film I've shot in about 3 years and a few are as old as 6 years. So, I've been catching up and processing all my old film and doing some printing lately, now that I have an enlarger and a film tank and some chemistry. There's a wild variation and I sometimes like to keep track, if for no other reason than to remember how I created a specific result in case I'd ever like to do that again... So, I'll share that info here.

Digital Manipulation and texturing

People tell me about what a purist I am when it comes to photography, but I don't really understand what makes them say that. I shoot more digital work than anything and have for the last 5 or 6 years. Film has become so cost-prohibitive that I simply can't afford to shoot as much as I would like to for that reason alone. My portfolio however, doesn't contain any obvious digital manipulations (I've always felt that the less you notice I've done to the photograph, the better) and that seems to bring people to the conclusion that I'm anti-manipulation. Well that's simply not true. I appreciate anything that is done WELL. I aspire to achieve the same. The fact that I don't have anything like that in my portfolio is more that I feel unsure of my expertise, my "vision" for any kind of complicated theme and know that I have a particular aesthetic that I wish to achieve and will not half ass it if I can't make it look phenomenal. So, I decided to challenge myself with a manipulation image and constructed a plan to build a face-mold mask for Kelley and one light photograph her with a texture combination that I could really "marry" with the image. This is what I got...

Seriously, I have got to be the worst blogger ever. My consistency is laughable at best. I have done quite a bit since the last post, so a lot is going to be left out in the process of catching up, but I'll do my best to add some of the more noteworthy images of the last however many months I've neglected this thing this time. Love you all and thank you for watching and putting up with my absence!




Got the studio put together in the new place... It's nice to have space to work. I'd like more, but I'll take what I can get for now. Built a new posing box and got to try it out with Lily, my always lovely wife, Kelley and another friend...
