Zenfolio

Found a new place to display my work, where I'm not limited to model related material only and I can actually sell prints on my own terms. Go check it out. I'll be uploading stuff for days... just have model work up now.

I'm on the F Blog!!!

Everyone! Go look! I'm on the F Blog! I love the work that goes into this place and have been following it for years, so it feels pretty cool to have a piece up there. I would be forever grateful to any and all who would visit the link and leave a comment on the photo. It's the one titled "Infrared by Candlelight". Thank you everyone!

Darkroom days are here again...

I finally stepped out of my digital world for about 7 hours today and went to the darkroom. Had a lot to do... only got a little done. BUT!! I did get to see the fruits of my agonizing labor from my last shoot with Kelley in January. She sends me a link to a digital infrared color photo one day asking what it is... I explain the whole infrared thing and how black and white infrared film is like no other, yada yada and my brain snaps and says "Yoooooouuuuu have to shoot infrared film". "By candlelight!" The voices in my head tell me to do much stranger shit than kill people, as you can clearly see. So, I go off and blow a wad of cash and nearly break myself in half building this giant contraption in time to do this shoot. It's ten tiers high and holds 30 tea or votive candles per shelf for a total of 300. (see below) This turned out to be BARELY enough light to do what I wanted. Here are the prints from today, following the shot of the tower:

NEXT!!

Here are the next victims, waiting patiently for their demise...

More old stuff

Thanks to Stu and my acquisition of Capture One, I've been playing with old RAWS that I may have missed the first go around and finding some stuff that I like a lot. Here are a couple:

Dead Flowers

I mentioned considering a dead flower project recently... Well I decided to start. Here's the first session results. This will be ongoing for as long as I can kill flowers and then find a way to photograph them decently.

Large format

No, this isn't shot on large format but the selective focus really makes me pine for a Sinar X 4x5 so that I can do this in camera on film. :( Photoshop is nice and all, but there is simply no replacement for the real deal and 4x5 is an exquisite format.

This track originally was not going to be on the album, but I made a last minute decision to include it, so here it is:

Resurrecting "lost" photos

I love going back into my pile of unused shots when I'm bored and seeing if I can salvage some. Here's one I found last night that was taken while testing my light settings. It's badly underexposed, so the rules went out the window and I felt free to play with it as much as I liked. The resulting photo was added to my portfolio on ModelBrigade and was immediately chosen as a showcase photo! Kind of makes it worth all the extra effort. Here it is:

Mixing underway...

Finally, the mixing for Revenant is underway and I'm hoping to have something tangible for CD ordering soon. Finances are tight and I'm funding this thing all by myself, so there are no promises for an actual release date since it depends on when I can afford to print the CDs and artwork. Here's the cover:

Move by will alone

Pure as we begin.
Pure as we come in.
Pure as we begin.
Ruled by will alone.

Pure as we begin.
Here we have a stone.
Gather, place, arrange so,
Shelter turns to home.

Pure as we begin.
Here we have a stone.
Throw to stay the stranger.
swatcher crushes bone.

Ruled by will alone.

Spark becomes a flame.
Flame becomes a fire.
Light the way or warm this.
Home we occupy.

Spark becomes a flame.
Flame becomes a fire.
Forge a blade to stay the stranger.
Take whatever we desire.

Moved by will alone.
Pure as we begin.

Pure as we begin
Move by will alone.
Leave as we come in.
Pure as light.
Return to one.

Move by will alone.
Move by will alone.

-Tool, Intension

Such a simple concept, yet so universally true.

Friends make great models...

I've learned this over the years. Sometimes the best models aren't models at all. I started this whole phase of photographing people from friends insisting on me shooting them over a decade ago. I like shooting with people that I know. The photos almost seem to have stories that way. It's an interaction. A friend from work recently asked me to shoot her and here are a few of the resulting photos from that. All wardrobe and props were her idea.
